Silver Bear ammo
I bought some silver bear ammo 7.62X39, Outside of the box it stated FMJ.
But inside the indivual boxes it actually bi-metal(heard its copper with steel) HP. Is this good shtf ammo, or should I exchange it for FMJ? The only down side I can't use it at my indoor range because they don't allow steel in the bullet part. |
Re: Silver Bear ammo
I have some for my Mosin-Nagant and it is fine.
I guess that Full Metal Jacket in Russia is taken liberally |

Silver Bear is one of my first choices in Russian made ammo for shooting in Kalashnikovs...5.45x39, .223, and .308. Haven't actually shot any 7.62x39.
The Silver Bear zinc finish will not hold up as well as lacquer-coated stuff, but it is generally considered one of the better imported steel-cased ammo. Not a thing wrong with HP for SHTF. The Wolf Military Classic HP actually fragments rather nicely and is what I choose to shoot in my AKs. The bullet you are referring to has a lead core, soft steel jacket, and a copper wash or plate. Not armor-piercing exactly, but it will spark when it hits something hard (fire hazard). Wolf 124 gr. Military Classic: |
Re: Silver Bear ammo
Silver Bear is my favorite 7.62X39 ammo, though I favored the Silver Bear Match that they don't seem to make/import(?) anymore. It's more accurate and less dirty than the more popular Wolf ammo.
